"The Fall" is taken from Gary Numan's newest release, "Dead Son Rising". Although he has been playing this song for near two years now (I heard him play this at The Troxy back in April and it sounded great), the studio version is now officially available on the new album.

"Dead Son Rising" is available in 3 versions, the Standard, Deluxe or Super-Deluxe however it is only available (for the meantime) through the Gary Numan official website: www.numan.co.uk. 

If you are thinking of ordering the Super-Deluxe version, expect delays on any orders as rumor has it that the test pressing for the vinyl was not up to scratch as well as a myriad of other minor issues.

The Mission - Dance On Glass

With The Mission reforming (again) for their 25th anniversary tour, I thought it apt that we should write a piece dedicated to the origins of the band which has provided such great Goth club anthems such as 'Butterfly On A Wheel', 'Deliverance' and 'Wasteland'.

'Dance On Glass' originally came to light when Wayne Hussey was a part of Sisters Of Mercy and was originally planned to appear on the follow up to 'First And Last And Always', 'Left on Mission and Revenge'. Upon parting ways with 'The Sisters', Hussey joined with the now ex-bassist guitarist Craig Adams to form The Sisterhood. However, before they could ever release an album, Andrew Eldritch released an album as The Sisterhood, effectively preventing Hussey and Adams from continuing under this name. From there, The Mission was born.

The song, 'Dance On Glass' was released by The Mission on the first full length album, 'Gods Own Medicine'. There is also a demo version performed by the Sisters Of Mercy line up (found on the Rare Obscurities release) that included Hussey (as vocals) and Adams however the song eventually became Black Planet.

This week I chose Psychic TV/PTV3's cover of The Velvet Underground's "Foggy Notion"
This cover is by far more visceral than the original and takes it to a whole new level with Genesis Breyer P-Orridge's mix of harsh and soft vocals - especially the entertaining interlude which has an excellent build up.

This track is from the 2008 Psychic TV/PTV3 release "Mr. Alien Brain Vs. The Skinwalkers" which I have been listening to a lot recently. I chose "Pickles and Jam", which is one of my favourite Psychic TV tracks (also from this album) for 1334Bats - Volume 4.

Gods Zoo is probably my favourite track by Ian Astbury as it was during the period when he started to ditch the Goth Rock associations of Southern Death Cult to progress towards a more rock sound via The Cult. Astbury joined former Theatre of Hate guitarist, Billy Duffy for the short lived Death Cult which only produced 2 singles (that were later combined into an EP).

The earlier works with Southern Death Cult are also excellent pieces of work and also deserve a mention. "Apache" and "Moya" to name a few tracks to come from the only full release (or rather, a compilation of recordings) by Southern Death Cult that was to become Death Cult and later, The Cult.

Götterdämmerung - Left Hand Rapture

Recently coming from the same label (Strobelight Records) as such notorious Darkwave/Deathrock acts as “Last Days Of Jesus” and “Pink Turns Blue”, this track from the album Kin-Birst 9104, is probably my favourite from Götterdämmerung . I would also recommend listening to the album “Of Whores and Culture”, especially the track Vibroboy.

This week's track of the week comes from Frank the Baptist's first release, "Different Degrees of Empty". Initially founded in San Diego, California, frontman Frank Vollmann initially found success in the Darkwave/Deathrock scene in North America before finally signing with Austrian's Strobelight Records. A move which helped the band break into the Europen market. After releasing a further two albums through the label, a relocation to Berlin and a line-up change, Frank the Baptist are continuing to earn their place within the Darkwave community.

My choice this week is Dead or Alive's first 7" single "I'm Falling". The release came out just before Wayne Hussey (The Sisters of Mercy/The Mission) officially joined, and years before the band changed to create more pop orientated material such as 'You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)'
'Flowers' was featured on the B-side and the video showcases a punk/tribal version of frontman Pete Burns.
